Obama Stole My Vacation

I'm happy a "local" boy has made good and has been elected our new President. I guess I'm a little biased being that I'm from Hawaii too. Finally a President who is having a true vacation and one that I would actually envy (please, a vacation at a Texas ranch is not what I call fun!) Obama has come home or at least is renting a lavish estate in Kailua, in the private Lanikai area. Not quite downtown Honolulu where he grew up, but hey, if I was going on vacation in Hawaii I'd pick Lanikai too. My husband has been reading about Obama's every move on the island and with some envy of course. Obama has stolen our Hawaiian vacation! We go back to Oahu every year and always have our favorite haunts, and Mr. Obama is following our every move.

First off, Lanikai is a special place for us. My son was christened on the beaches of Lanikai, probably not far from Obama's compound. Secondly, Obama has been seen playing golf at Olomana, one of my husband's favorite local golf courses. Believe me, Obama has his choice of many high-end private courses, but this guy chose Olomana of all places (right in dicey Waimanalo.) Next stop, to our favorite shave ice joint in Koko Marina (the local shopping center in Hawaii Kai), Kokonuts. What next, Zippy's for a plate lunch? I wouldn't be surprised if his next move is a trip to Haleiwa for some fish tacos at Cholo's or Michelle Obama may hit the North Shore Swimwear shop for a custom-made bikini. So I'm kind of flattered that the President Elect has chosen to duplicate my Hawaiian vacation. At least the guy has good taste and knows how to have fun. Love that he body surfs at my old hangout, Sandy Beach (also where my hubbie proposed to me!)

My Dream Boot

Okay, I lied, I did have a few things on my "want" list this year. But I wouldn't trust anyone but myself to purchase these - a boyfriend jean, a status watch, and some short booties (preferably a Sigerson Morrison size 10 1/2.) And boy did I get lucky on the latter. I had heard that Sigerson Morrison was having their annual 50-70% off sale (started Dec. 18th.) so I was anxious to get to one of their stores here in LA to see if I could snag the "it" boot of the season. Sure enough, I came up with a plan. "Let's go to Malibu for the day..." when actually all I really wanted to do was check out the boots at Sigerson's Malibu store. Yes, they had "the" boot and in my size. Yeah! I love my new gunmetal (sort of a greenish grey which will look fab with blacks, greys, and browns and much more unexpected than the predictable black) leather booties with side zip and studded flap. Perfection! I can't wait to wear them. And at 50% off, I was able to purchase without guilt. Merry Christmas to myself!

By the way, you should hurry on over to any one of Sigerson Morrison's stores (Malibu, Beverly Hills, 3rd Street) and check out their amazing sale. Pretty much everything is either 50 or 70% off. To snag a pair of boots in the $200 range instead of the $400+ range, you can leave your guilt at home. If you can't make it to one of their stores, my favorite boot is available online at Zappos for a measly 24% off (I bet they'll go down even more soon.)

I've always been a huge fan of Sigerson Morrison's shoes, not only because they make a size 10 1/2, but because their shoes wear so well. I have a half a dozen of their shoes and many were purchased a good 8 years ago in Nolita. Not only are they still in fashion, but they are in excellent condition and I plan to "will" my collection to my daughter someday. At 2 she already has a fetish for my Sigerson's. Let's just hope she has big feet like me when she grows up!

All I Want For Christmas...

My son's Christmas "want" list was pretty long, which at four years old is understandable, but when you get to be an adult your "want" list gets shorter and shorter each year. My husband always asks me what I want for Christmas and this year my answer was short - "nothing." I have everything I want really - a healthy, beautiful family and a thriving business. Yes, I probably would love a new diamond ring (gotta wait till my 10 year anniversary!) or a vintage Mercedes 450SL (red, please.) But let's be realistic. I told my son all I wanted this Christmas was a painting or drawing by him, something homemade and with love. Sure enough, I got what I wanted this year, neatly wrapped in a flat 8 1/2 x 11 format, his self portrait on construction paper. See above my favorite gift I received this year - my son's self portrait in black marker. Love it! He looks like a Christmas tree!

To continue on my thought about homemade gifts...I too got creative for my husband's gift this year. For zero dollars, I created a homemade CD (2 disc at that!) titled the 'Wife Mix' featuring some of my favorite tunes this year that I wanted to package together (feeling a bit like Brian Eno here!) for my husband to enjoy on his hour long traffic jam everyday on the 10. I even whipped up some artwork thanks to Illustrator and personalized the CD cover. So when you think your loved one has everything, why not make a gift from the heart? You've got another year ahead to get creative until next Christmas, so get crackin'!

NEW YEAR PARTY STYLE GUIDE - must haves

New Year is all about dressing up and having fun. These are five party must haves to GET READY FOR THE BASH.

1. DRESS 2. JEWELLERY 3. HEELS 4. HAIRCUT 5. CLUTCH

Read on.....

1. DRESS IT UP
Elegant and feminine, DRESS is a MUST-HAVE for this NEW YEAR PARTY. A fabulous dress will make you feel a million dollars instantly. So add glamous and sophistication to your special occassion dressing with YOUR DRESS.
Styles you can wear:
- Look out for shape and opulence in fabulous jewel-encrusted satin and silk dresses or cascading frilled one-shoulder numbers.
- For a more girly and glamorous look pick cocktail dresses or prom dresses, they are especially popular with the younger party-goers.

Black is always glitzy, but Look out for colours for this new year eve - purple, yellow, silver, red (is the new black this season), blue, gold and their variations.

Below are some Hot Dresses for New Year Party

- One-shouldered Dress
These dresses are one of they key trends this season and was a favourite on runway with Lanvin, Valentino, Missoni. This style works well with women of all sizes and are flattering on both petite and plus sized women.
.

This dress will emphasize your figure. Don’t forget about accessories: earrings, bracelet, cocktail ring and clutch and choose comfortable and right colour heels.
Stockist: ASOS; Price: £37.20
.
- Halter Dress
Halter is one of the most flattering style. Pick a dress in halter for turning heads.

This dress is sophistication to the max and I just adore the satin fabric and ribbon layered style which makes it that extra bit special. Echoing Herve Leger's signature bandage dress, at $200 it for sure would make a statement on the NYE. This halter number will look stunning teamed with a smart clutch with matching shoes (in colour) and chandelier earrings.

A similar styled dress is also available at Lipsy for £34.25, click here to view and buy.

- Lace
Lace is very popular and is the one of the hottest trends of this season. The age of romance comes alive in a lovely silhouette and delicate lace.

The Black and Gold Lace Dress is perfect for the New Year Evening, whether you're going for a dinner party or clubbing. Accessorize it with gold earrings and bracelet and a nice pair of gold stillettos to make a glamorous entry.
Stockist: ASOS; Price: £28

.

.
L- Lace Dress from Forever New; R- Lace Corsage Dress from Oasis

.

Forever New: Lace and Ruffle are the trend this season, they look feminine and flirty. This style works best on skinny girls. The Victorian lace rufle detail dress from Forever New will make all the heads turn to you.
Stockist: Forever New available in Australia and India (Mumbai, Bangalore and Ludhiana).

Oasis: So romantic, black colour in lace. I think you'll look absolutely fabulous in thuis strapless dress. Click here to buy Oasis Lace Corsage Dress
.
- Tafetta Dress

Glamour at its best: iridescent taffeta finds itself in a flattering silhouette with soft pleats and a cinched waist.
Stockist: Banana Republic; Price: $99.99

Whatever you wear, make sure you have a great one!

2. JEWELLERY THAT ROCKS
Bling on, jewellery is a must – add chunky metallic and jewelled cuffs, chandelier earrings and droplet necklaces (though not all at once – less is more).

3. HIP HEELS
High enough to make a statement but comfortable enough to party all-night the choice of shoe is crucial. Choose platform stilletos for a sleek sexy look and they would be comfortable .

4. LET YOUR HAIR DOWN
Complete your party look by letting your hair down. So what is the difference between party hairstyles and other formal hairstyles? Party hairdos are generally a little more cute and fun, a little less serious and formal.

Blow-dry them to get flirty waves or thick bangs. If you are looking for a significant change in your look, go for a bang or fringes, the hottest this season are long thick bangs that go passed the eye brows.
.

Ashlee Simpson and Sarah Michelle Giller in bangs

Bangs - they're in and they look hot. Long, sideswept bangs, heavy curtains of bangs....there's no hotter trend right now.

Choose from side sweeping bangs (like Mughdha Godse, below), straight bangs (like Sarah Michelle Giller above or Ira Dubey below), wavy bangs, choppy bangs or heavy bangs with layered hair (like Ashlee Simpson, above). Check with your hair stylist what kind of bangs will suit your face shape the best.

5. CLUTCH
Clutches are a quick, one-accessory way to make your outfit pop. Oversized Clutches are hot and will give some extra space for all your goodies.

Feathery Confections

It's already Christmas Eve which means New Year's Eve is right around the corner and the countdown to looking fabulous is upon us. Ring in the new year looking festive (and optimistic!) with these lovely handmade feathery confections. Accessorizing your new year's eve outfit can easily become predictable when you just load on the necklaces and chandelier earrings, so why not tone the rest of your ensemble down and simply don a be-jeweled, feathered headband instead? Your LBD will look smashing with this statement hair accessory. Keep it simple and elegant. The only other flash you need is in the shoes (never skimp on your shoes!) I love these handmade headbands with vibrant cobalt blue feathers, peacock accents, and topped off with a vintage brooch. A friend of a friend hand makes these in New York and any one of these can be yours for only 25 buckaroos. Now that's what I call a deal. I've seen similar headgear here in LA for over 100 bucks easily and they were probably not handmade with love. So if you're lookin' to upgrade your New Year's Eve look this year and jazz it up a bit, email me at info@shopstacia.com and I'll hook you up with the maker. See you in 2009!

Trend Watch - Oversized Clutches

bigger, better

The OVERSIZED CLUTCH was the hottest accessory last year with many celebrities (Victoria Beckham, Lindsay lohan, Mary-Kate Olsen, Sarah Jessica Parket) sporting the style generously and IT IS STILL A HOT FASHION TREND. "I think it's so chic and glamorous. I love it for day; I love it for night", stylist Nicole Chavez says. They're an instant way to bring an outfit up to date.
.

Victoria Beckham is carrying Jimmy Choo's Marin Oversized Bad, buy from net-a-porter.com for $1,250 or jimmychoo.com for £637.
.

Ashlee Simpson (left) and Katherine McPhee (right)

Gwen Stefani carrying L.A.M.B convertible oversized clutch

.
The oversized clutch has ample space for all your essentials but doesn't lead to lugging shoulder-killing loads around. As well as being elegant to look at themselves, the oversized clutch bag forces you to carry yourself more elegantly too, rather than hunching up under a heavy shoulder bag. It's been spotted all over the runway from Bottega Veneta and Lanvin to Missoni.

The best part of carrying the overnight clutch is that it gives you freedom to carry something fashionable and chic while being able to carry everything you need with ease.

Budget Buys

1. Matt and Nat Japanese Paper Oversized Clutch for £50 now (earlier was £100), click here to buy

2. Suzy Smith Oversized Twist Lock Clutch for £25 now (earlier £39), click here to buy

3. Linea Satin Oversized Flap Over Frame Clutch for £48 from House of Fraser. Available in three colours - purple, black and silver. Our pick: Purple. Purple in satin looks very elegant and rich. Click here to buy.

.
Q&A

What can I accessorize it with?
If you are a subtle dresser then you can let the oversized clutch be your main accessory. But if you love to accessorize then pile on the bangles so all the attention is drawn towards the bag.

I am petite, can I still carry an oversized clutch?
Petite girls don't need need to skip the trend. It will look great on you too.

So follow the lead of famous fashionistas and carry a clutch with space to spare.

Smart Tip: Invest in one with a detachable strap so it transforms into the next big thing - a sling bag.
